"If Russia rejects the ceasefire proposal, there will be no doubt who is in favor of war," said the Polish prime minister. Today in Ukraine, the leaders of Poland, France, Great Britain, and Germany met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Kremlin has called statements by European countries "confrontational" and has dismissed the threat of new sanctions. Poland has signed a defense treaty with France in the first such agreement between Paris and a non-neighboring country.
As the West closes ranks to bolster its security, Russia looks to strengthen its position in the global South. The victory parade in Moscow gathered leaders such as China’s Xi Jinping and Brazil’s Luiz Lula da Silva and the leaders of Serbia and EU member Slovakia. Although Hungary’s Viktor Orbán decided not to travel to Moscow, his government’s alleged actions have led to serious tensions between Budapest and Kyiv. Ukrainian officials claim they have uncovered a Hungarian spy network operating in their country. This has led to both countries expelling two diplomats in a tit-for-tat move.
